I have been teaching high school since 1996 and have been a teacher at Renaissance High School for the Arts since the school's inception in 2004. It has been an amazing journey to be part of this school and to have witnessed it grow and blossom into the outstanding school it is. We are a true community of artists and educators!
I am also the LBUSD Art Curriculum Leader and spend 50% of the week at the district's Teacher Resource Center, with the other 50% teaching here at Renaissance.
I believe wholeheartedly in the power of art and the value of the arts in students' growth and development and I consider myself a passionate advocate for arts education. I want my students to develop and hone their artistic skills, and I also hope they learn to harness their own power -- to find their voice and to express themselves through their art. Our school provides the space for them to take creative risks and to nurture the spark within themselves.
"The arts make vivid the fact that neither words in their literal form nor numbers exhaust what we can know. The limits of our language do not define the limits of our cognition." -Elliot Eisner
